Its not every day where you get to experience first had stepping out onto a shipping port. A place with security similar to that of a military office. That said being able to see the hundreds of thoushousand of shipping containers filled with goods and the huge vessels that carried more than I can imagine was out of this world. For our company visit we were able to visit the Pireasous Port which is the largest port of Greece.
We were given a bus tour of the facilities where we got to see the second and third tiers firsthand. Tier 2 contained about 10,000 containers while Tier 3 had larger scale containers that could be found on the Cusco vessel. The orgianziation of the containers are extremely well thought out as they utalizie digital platforms like their app and HBCS to be able to track their completion, speed, and location. Tier 1 was stated to have around 1 million conayienrs but due to teh high level security associated with the customs that the tier dealt with, we were unable to see. We also learned of teh history of cusco shipping which informed us that teh reason only greeks were employee there was due to a contract that was won and signed over by the Chinese owners awarding around 3,000 positions in Tier 2 alone.
