Today, we started off by heading over to the School of Engineering for a few presentations. The first focused on balance and its three main components, which are visual, auditory, and vestibular. We learned that if one of these systems is impaired, balance can be affected. We also discussed concepts like the base of support, center of mass, and center of pressure. The second lecture focused more on different balance tests and how to assess them. To better understand, we broke into pairs and evaluated each other. One person was blindfolded while the other assessed them using the Berg Balance Test. The blindfold made the test more challenging since vision was removed.
After that, we learned more about specific devices used to measure balance. We got to see a newer version of the Oreka-Balance machine, and some of us even had the chance to try it out. The main difference in this version was that it had two platforms, one for each foot, which allowed for more detailed measurements. We then had lunch at the school and learned more about the Bisky team, a group of students who work on building rockets.
Later in the day, we visited the football stadium. It was really cool to see the stadium in person, and it would definitely be exciting to attend a game there. We even got a behind the scenes look at areas like the locker rooms and press sections. Afterwards, a few of us went souvenir shopping and ended the night with pizza and gelato. It was another great day, and I can’t believe the trip is almost over!
