Day 10: Lectures and La Cathedral!

Day 10!! We started the day at the School of Engineering. Here, we listened to a presentation from Mikel about balance and the systems in the body that affect and control it. His presentation was super interesting! I never really thought about how many different systems played a role in balance and just how complicated it was. Mikel then talked about different tests for balance. He shared the aspects of each and the pros and cons. After this presentation, we were able to split into groups to try the Berg Balance Scale for ourselves. After being blindfolded, we were tested on our ability to complete various activities. I had so much fun doing this and it was great to get an insight on what I may be doing in a hospital later in life as a nurse. I scored a 55/56 which was worse than some of my other peers, but definetly not the worst!

After this activity, we visited the university’s rocket design team. The team manager shared with us details about their team and the rockets they design. They design rockets capable of reaching 9,000 meters above the ground! I was shocked that a university team was able to achieve such impressive numbers. They then showed us some of the parts and details that went into each rocket. It made me appreciate engineering and the effort that went into every small thing.

To end our day, we went on a guided tour of “La Cathedral” as the locals call it. This is the home stadium of the Athletic Club in Bilbao. Our tour was very detailed, and I really enjoyed seeing all the inner workings of the stadium. We got to see press rooms and the locker rooms. It was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. Before leaving the stadium, we also walked through a museum that went through the full history of  the team. It was really cool to see how the team evolved over time.

After this, a group of us went souvenir shopping! I finally found a gold keychain to add to my collection (much harder than you would think). Overall, today was so interesting and fun.
