Day Nine: Workshop and Art Museum

We started the day off at the School of Engineering! One of the groups working in the lab presented their wheelchair and walker design to us! They used sensors to track weight distribution and center of mass to improve safety of the patient. After that it was our turn! We started with a quick warmup to get our brains thinking. The first was to turn images into something else by drawing on them and the next was to show where we would be in ten years. I am definitely not an artist!

After this we began the workshop! Each group was given a problem in healthcare and had to design something to fix/prevent the issue from happening. The groups were dignity and defecation, patient falls, bed sores, and transfers. My group was dignity and defecation. We worked together to try and design something that would help give patients more privacy and be more comfortable to use. After running some trials with given scenarios and conducting some research we had a good idea of what we needed to focus on. We chose to make a bed that opened and had a bin underneath that could eventually be disposed of by a nurse. This allowed for privacy, more comfort, and was sanitary. We made our design out of clay and presented it to the rest of the group. We were then asked questions and given thoughts on what we could improve. We also got to listen to the rest of the groups ideas and everyone had interesting designs.

Following this we went to the Fine Arts Museum! We did get a little wet as it poured on the way over to the museum but nonetheless we made it! We had a guided tour that took us around to all the different paintings and artwork. During this we learned some history about when and why certain pieces were made. It was definitely an interesting experience!

To end the day, we went shopping for clothes! It was a fun and most people bought something! We also got to try this amazing pizza for only 3 euros! Overall, it was a fun day and I can’t wait for tommorrow!
