Kyndryl and Dos Pinos

Today we visited Kyndryl, an multinacional IT company, and Dos Pinos, a cooperative dairy manufacturer. Both companies serve and employ Costa Ricans, but Dos Pinos creates more lasting value for Costa Rica.

Dos Pinos formed because dairy farmers realized they would pay less fees and face less risks if they created a central processing plantfor all of thier milk. The dairy and fruit products that they manufacture then get sold across Costa Rica and Central America as well as animal feed that the farmers use to keep thier animals healthy. The Cooperative works as a democracy where the owners of each farm get together to discuss and vote on changes that need to be made, including the desicion to expand to a bigger plant years ago. Dos Pinos reportadly pays fair wages, though the work can be demanding. Because this comapny is based in Costa Rica, the profits are most likely staying here, and they are paying most of their taxes to Costa Rica, enhancing the local economy while providing needed support to local farmers, the foundation of any sociaty. While Dos Pinos is not a Multinational Cooperation, they do work on Green Economy Integration, but it was not an emphasis in the tour of thier facilities.

Kyndryl is a Multinational Corporation with their headquarters in New York City. Because their headquarters are not local and their customers are global, I feel like they provide less lasting value to Costa Rica. If at any point Kyndryl decides that their Costa Rican branch is not bringing in as much profit as they would like, Kyndryl can disolve that branch realativly easily. Additionaly, the only direct value they provide is to thier employees and enterprise clients. However, this company provides more emphasise for my topic of Multinational Corporations and Green Economy Integration. Kyndryl has locations and customers across the globe, and the Costa Rican branch alone serves clients in 87 countries. The have weekly 30-60 minute compliance meeting to ensure that every branch is following protocals and to help eachother fix any issues that arose. They also heavily emphasized thier work to become carbon neutral, including moving from 250 data centers to their goal of 40 by moving most of their data to the cloud. They also do a lot of neighboorhood clean ups that directly affect Costa Rica and improve the community of their employees.
