I woke up in the middle of the night because Sophie’s phone was going off. And I turn around to see her phone on a Nintendo switch and maybe that’s why it’s so loud, so I moved it off the switch and went back to sleep. When I woke up, I told her that and she said she never brought her switch to Korea. So, what did I see last night!? On the desk was only a hotel bible. I clearly saw buttons and the red switch thingy. But maybe my mind is just confused and made something up. So, mystery switch. Anyway, we got ready to go and got on the bus.
We made it to postech the university we’re visiting for two days. It is a superpower as they say small but strong. They were the first research university in Korea. There was a simple facts presentation then Yun did one about Pittsburgh because an exchange student will be coming there. Then we went to go see some other talks including one about some research going on in postech. I forgot her name, but she was in charge of some experiments including ones where they use chatbots to check up on socially isolated older adults and then separate research on one for young adults. I thought that was really cool. Then we met some postech students and went to lunch with them.
I don’t remember my girl’s name either. It was something difficult for me to pronounce but she was really cool and smart. We talked about life at Postech vs. Pitt. And most importantly she told us about the campus cats! They have cats! The most famous cat is Nobel (after Nobel prizes) and he is so sweet. I later saw him chilling in the shade, from there we went to go see more research experiments.
These experiments were out of my depth. I am not an engineer, I am SCI. We did see a quantum computer though which was really cool! It cost around 3 million to make and they had two in the same room. But I did like this one experiment where they passed electricity through glass and it turned from black to clear and could be used for windows and stuff like that. From there we went to the particle accelerators.
Also, way out of my depth from what I gather this school has two, one gen 4 and one older one. Do not quote me on that. Anyway, it was interesting to look at, the walls of a lot of the stuff were bright pink for some reason. But from my understanding that they speed up the particles then those particles imminent radiation and that radiation can be used to see super small stuff. After that we went back to the hotel.
There we worked on the project due on Thursday and got an outline down. Then we went to dinner on the beach again! This time it was Chinese food. Then we went and walked along the shore. I took my shoes off and let my feet feel the sand! I was so happy I haven’t been to a real ocean beach since I was like 13! I’ve gone to this one every day that we have been here. And Rohit and Dom made a huge Among Us drawing in the sand that reminded me of toothless drawings. Then we branched off into groups and some of us went back to the cafe we went to the other night. I got another peach tea which I have decided is my favorite tea. I absolutely love it! And the others got chocolate devil ice flakes. They don’t come with horns like the advertisement says. But they still look really good!
