Day 6: More Than Just a Coding School

I was pleasantly surprised today with all of the information that we were able to gather during our site visit to the 1337 coding school. We learned a lot and everything that we had questions about were answered, besides specific financial information. All of the information we learned is going to be very helpful for out final presentation and I could not have wished for the visit to go any better than it did.

The actual area of the school was very beautiful with greenery and paths everywhere. The dorms were so nice they had me wishing they would build some in Oakland that I could move into back at college. We also learned how they are taking a lot of initiatives to get more women into the school which I thought was a very good thing for them to do. Along with this, one of my group members talked to a girl student at the school who said only positive things about it.

One thing going into the site visit that I was very interested in was how the certificate worked with job placement because they do not get traditional diplomas. However, they mentioned that companies are starting to realize how skilled of workers the 1337 creates and is even making a special category of requirements that allows 1337 graduates to qualify for jobs without diplomas. They also mentioned that graduates have even worked internationally showing that they are not just limited to jobs here in Morrocco. This is something that I think is very interesting and I will definitely be touching on at our end of the program presentation.

Overall, I really enjoyed my site visits for today and can’t wait to be able to explore Marrakesh tomorrow! Bye!
