Our Last Company Visit

Today, we visited AlfaOmega Pharma Logistics, a Greek pharmaceutical supply chain company. We received a brief presentation about the company, and then we were able to walk around the warehouse. While we were walking through the warehouse, I immediately noticed how the entire warehouse was organized to be the most efficient when operating. The warehouse seemed to be designed to maintain a high level of productivity, with products being carefully labeled and stored in ways where they are transportation ready. We got to walk into their freezer area, which was interesting to see because this company mainly specializes in temperature-controlled products. I also observed how technology and collaborative efforts played a major role in maintaining efficient daily operations, as the warehouse utilizes temperature monitoring technology and we were able to see workers tracking inventory and moving throughout the warehouse. Something that appealing to me was that this warehouse seemed to be function as of a much larger part of a logistics network, and not just solely for storage. Continuing to be able to see how engineering relates to supply chain management only increases my understanding of how settings like warehouses are important to global commerce as a whole. I truly enjoyed today’s company visit because it related to the pharmaceutical sector of chemical engineering, which I am interested in.
