Today is our first day at the University of Augsburg! We took the streetcars for the first time and they were super easy to navigate and very clean. The stop took us right to the entrance of the University of Augsburg. The campus itself was nice and reminded me of a typical college in the states; considering there are around 20,000 students, it was quite quiet around campus. The inside of the building was very modern with lots of windows.
Here, we met with our project groups and collaborated for an hour or so to make a brief introductory presentation to give that day. My group, Audi, has 3 German students and they are all super nice and knowledgeable. Patrick Will from Audi presented on corporate strategy and it was very insightful considering that is my group, we were able to ask questions and get some information for our project.
After a few hours, we headed to the canteen for lunch. This was definitely a much smaller scale of the Eatery, but it must have been peak lunch time because it was packed! We had lunch and then headed back to Augsburg with some of the German grad students who are coming to Pitt in the fall.
Once we got back, we separated into groups and the German students created a scavenger hunt for us. My group was led by Henrik and he showed us some of the prettiest hidden spots around Augsburg. My favorite was Hofgarten, which had beautiful flowers all around and is a nice spot for the locals to go and hang out. We also got gelato at one of his favorite local spots and it was delicious. We ended the scavenger hunt at a beer garden and tried some non-alcoholic beer, which I actually really enjoyed.
For dinner, we went to an Italian restaurant in Augsburg and I had pizza, which was very good and I made sure to order the salami pizza rather than pepperoni. The menu was very broad and there were a lot of options, which is how a lot of menus are at home. We ate with some of the Germans once again and they are so much fun to talk to; they are also very interested in learning more about our lives in Pittsburgh. Today was a great first full day and I am really looking forward to BMW tomorrow.
