Day Eleven: Mud Everywhere

Today we woke up at the same time as always and got breakfast! After that it was time to head to our company visit at Tekniker! It was a beautiful bus ride and the company was situated on top of a mountain so the view was amazing! We arrived and sat through a brief presentation of the company where we learned about what they do and their overall mission. Following this we took a tour of their facility. We saw different machines, the office, the cafeteria, the gym and rock wall, and a camera system. This visit was very interesting and it was cool to see all of the technology as well as how easily the system was able to run. My favorite thing that we saw was the car that could expand and shrink in order to fit into smaller spaces!

After this visit we got on the bus again and headed to Oma painted forest! We started the hike up the mountain and at first we saw some animals and it wasn’t too steep. Eventually, we made it to a very muddy portion of the hike making it kind of hard to walk. We continued on until we reached the top where we took a break for lunch. I got a chicken and cheese sandwich which was pretty good. We then had some time to explore the part of the forest with the painted trees! There were tons of different designs and if you stood in the right spot they would line up to form a picture. We made our way down the hill after this and it was quite eventful. Emily took a fall, we almost got hit by a truck, and everyone’s shoes and pants were caked in mud. Overall, the experience was cool!

Even though we were covered in mud we still had one more stop! We made our way over to Gernika where we took a walking tour! We saw Picasso’s painting, a government building (with a beautiful stained glass ceiling), a 200 year old tree, and one of the bomb shelters. It was a very historical and interesting area! I learned a lot from this visit. Sadly we did have to say goodbye to Mangel as this was our last tour with her. Overall, it was a great day and I am so ready for tomorrow!
