Time flies quickly when you’re having fun, and these past two days have flown by.
Our travel day started bright and early, around 7:30 am, where we grabbed a quick breakfast. While I was sad to leave such a beautiful area of Ecuador, I was also eager to move on to this next section of our trip. We got on the road for our 6 hour bus ride to the Amazon, with numerous stops in between.
Our first was at the equator, where we had the opportunity to stand directly on the line, and learn a little more about the Earth we live on. Afterwards, we headed to the natural hot springs that rested along the mountainside. Each spring was hotter than the one before, but it was nice to take some time to relax on such a busy trip.
After wrapping up at the springs, we grabbed a snack at a local rest stop, and headed to one of my favorite parts of the day: the cloud forest. It was truly scenic; we trudged through the forest as it rained, uncaring about the brush and mud. The view was amazing, and I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time.
By the time we arrived to the lodge on the Río Napo river, it was dark outside. Some of us girls decided to do a little adventure and explore the forest, and it did take an unexpected turn. While running dramatically for our lives (from a spider), I completely lost my footing and dove full body into the mud. I was entirely covered head to toe, but it does make for an unforgettable story about my first night in the Amazon.
