Day 6-7: Vietnam

Today we went on the Mekong Delta trip. We actually got here the day before, but didn’t have to write a blog post because of the 4 hour drive. On the first day, we were allowed a little break in order to go chill in the pool. It was so refreshing in the 95ish degree weather, and helped reset the heat fatigue a bit. After that, we had an event planned for us where we went to this water park thing I suppose, where there were slides and events all over water for us to do. We separated into 2 teams and had competitions throughout the events. First we had a rock paper scissors tournament, where if you lost you jumped into the water. I was second, and I lost immediately. I had to jump in the water, and when I did it caught me super off guard. There was mud that was all the way up to my knees once you jumped in, and it squishing between my toes was an odd feeling. Next was the bridge game, where everyone on both teams has to stand up on a bridge and try to get the other team to fall off into the water. The first game my team did not do too good, I am pretty sure we lost. The guy behind me fell down and went directly through my legs and wiped me out. The second time was more fun, and eventually it was me versus 3 other people. One rule to know is that the guys could not push or really touch the girls to push them into the water, but they could push us. Knowing this, I had to sit there for an agonizing minute trying to get the girl in front of me into the water just by moving the platform. She eventually just said I could push her off, so I did exactly that. The bridge was very slippery and you had to have good balance in order to stay on, for it was also swaying. Immediately after I pushed the girl off, the other girl right behind her sprinted right at me and almost took me off the edge by dragging me off with her. Somehow, I was able to shrug her off and stay on the platform by balancing with one foot. The guy behind her saw my aura and fell off I suppose. It was pretty exciting in the moment and was definitely pretty cool. After that, we did two more games but they didn’t really work out. Then, we went fish catching which was pretty cool. After that, me and Emerson got pizza hut and then chilled in the room. I fell asleep at like 8:30 because I was extremely tired from not really sleeping for long the night before.

We had to wake up at 5:30 the next morning for the Mekong Delta part of the trip. We loaded onto a little boat and then went down the river to the floating market. It took a while to get there, but since the sun rises so early the views were pretty and it wasn’t that hot. Once we got there, we embarked the floating market. It was full of random candies and fermented fish and whatnot. I had no money to spend there, but it was cool to browse and look at stuff that was there. We then had to take a 4 hour bus ride back home, but after stopping in a nearby town and restaurant. Overall it was a very cool day and had some good views and experiences.
