Today, we took an hour long boat ride to Uruguay. Uruguay is a beautiful country, and it reminded me a lot of Europe. The buildings were very beautiful and colorful, and much like argentina, there were many stray dogs. While on the walking tour, the tour guide pointed out a tree, which is where the national flower, Ceibo bloomed. She said that the flower was actually the national flower of both Argentina and Uruguay. Today when we saw it, it wasn’t fully in bloom as it only blooms in spring, however, it was still easily identifiable by the red flowers. After going on the walking tour, we went on a bus tour, which is where we were able to get a good look at the water. The body of water surrounding the Uruguay coast is the Rio de la Plata, and compared to the surrounding water we saw on our way to Uruguay, was very brown. I learned that it was brown because it carries massive amounts of mud, clay, and soil to a basin in South America, before eventually draining in the river. After going on the walking tour and the bus tour, we were able to explore Uruguay by ourselves for a bit. We walked alongside the coast, and I saw someone fishing, and I learned that you can catch a variety of fresh and saltwater fish in Uruguay, like the Golden Durango, and while it’s not the countries official national fish, it is the most common in the region and has some cultural significance. To wrap up the day we took the boat back to Buenos Aires!
