Day 10: MAN!

This was one of our first early days in a while, and it hit me like a train. I have never been a morning person, so getting up at 5:30 a.m. has always been hard for me. You would think waking up that early every morning for swim practice throughout high school would have helped, but it definitely did not. We had our first company visit since last Tuesday, and this was also the company I am supposed to be presenting at. I slept the entire bus ride to the company and was nervous about what lay ahead when getting off the bus. I love visiting all of these companies and seeing what they create; however, it is a little more intimidating when you are expected to create a full presentation about the same company afterward.

Unlike the previous company visits, we started off with a tour of the factory. The facility in Nuremberg was specifically focused on the production of engines for their vehicles. Compared to the other companies we have visited, humans were doing most of the work with the assistance of machines. The tour was very beneficial for my part of the presentation and answered at least one of the questions I had planned to ask afterward. In addition to the factory tour, I thought the presentation itself was super interesting and useful. I am going to avoid sharing what I found most interesting because I want to keep it a surprise for my presentation.

After the company visit, we went into the heart of Nuremberg. My roommate, Lauren, had missed part of the company visit to go see the courtroom where the Nuremberg Trials took place. She was supposed to meet us at the hidden art bunker we were touring next. Unfortunately, she accidentally went to the wrong one because there were several throughout the city. Fortunately, she found her way back to the group before the tour started. I was pretty worried about her for a minute there.

The art bunker we toured held so much history, and you could really feel the weight of it while being inside. During World War II, Nuremberg was heavily bombed, and to protect the artwork, much of it was stored underground in old beer cellars. We also learned how much of the city had been destroyed and later rebuilt as replicas of the original buildings.

Learning about the destruction of the buildings and then seeing how they had been rebuilt was really impressive. After all of the tours, we walked around the city and grabbed some food for about an hour. On the bus ride back, I was very productive and worked on both my blogs and my presentation. We did not do too much after getting back to the hotel.
