What was supposed to be a tour of the company Continental, turned into a rather different tour which I knew from the beginning was going to be completely different. Aumovio was actually a branch of Continental that had split off the company in September 2025.
The reason for the spin off was that the branch decided that for the sake of both production efficiency and for the sake of investor differentiation. Aumovio was the branch responsible for making the technical components for cars. So anything that had to do with technology like a sensor, dashboard, cameras, etc… With the onset of not only sustainability initiatives becoming an industry standard but the increased demand in autonomous driving features regardless of what car you’re buying, this company, while it may seem like just a spinoff of a much larger more established company, was more relevant than it may have seemed on the surface.
The company tour itself was not super interesting. The production lines were fairly straightforward. They would design their basic parts in one half of the production facility and it got more specialized as you went down the line. The interesting thing about the factory however is that while it was very automated, humans still had a very important role in keeping the line going.
The presentation however was less than helpful. The common theme was just explaining the entirety of their production lines and going in detail about how productive and quick they were. Now this is all interesting but as far as actually explaining things about the industry, most other companies were touching on that a lot but Aumovio unfortunately was the exception.
Overall, the Aumovio visit felt different from many of the other company tours throughout the week. While the factory itself was not as visually impressive or detailed as some of the previous visits, it still highlighted how important automotive technology has become within the modern car industry and with that, it offered a different perspective on the other companies we visited.
