Similar to yesterday’s post, this post is also a two in one blog. Starting where I left off yesterday, after lunch, we went to a Korean fish market. This place was nothing like I have seen before. Everything was live, or freshly caught. It felt more like an exotic pet store rather than a market. Foresample, they had squirming sea worms, live octopus, giant fish, and monster king crabs. Dr. Yun bought us two live octopus to eat. Traditionally, Koreans clean the octopus, chop it up, and serve it raw and still writhing. As gross as it sounds, I had to try it. It was a very peculiar sensation. The tentacles were still moving in your mouth and the only way to stop it was to chew it until the leg was fully dead.
After the market, we went to a KBO game. This experience was awesome. The stadium was indoors and it did not have a large capacity. There were probably 6,000 or so fans there, about the same as a minor league game in the US. However, the few fans were all very enthusiastic. Noisemakers, chants, dances, the KBO had it all. In the sixth inning I got a ball from the right fielder Henry Ramos. This was a very unique experience, not many people can say that they got a ball from a Korean baseball game.
Today, Thursday, we had a Taekwondo lesson run by Master Kang. Though it was only the basics, it was very cool to be immersed in the Korean martial art. We each got our own Gi and belt. Afterwards, we explored the Korean city hall. This was interesting because it was originally built by and for the Japanese. Even more interesting were the pictures of Seoul from the 1970s. There was hardly anything here! Basically, all of the city was built in the last 50 or so years. That would explain why everything is so new.
