Day 9: Camp Casey and Hike

Today started with some breakfast and a shower as I got ready to go to Camp Casey. The bus ride was a bit long, but it was great when we finally got there. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures—nothing too interesting, and due to security reasons, we weren’t allowed to anyway. Grace and Will, both Pitt alumni, gave us a tour of the camp. They showed us a Stryker, an eight-wheeled vehicle that weighs 43,000 lbs.

We learned about what the Stryker is used for—specifically, it’s an NBCR vehicle, which stands for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Reconnaissance. Four people can fit into the vehicle. Inside, there’s a lab that allows them to test the air and get up to a 90% accurate guess of what substances are present.

After the tour of the camp, we went to the impact zone for lunch. I got some curly fries and a giant meat lovers calzone.

Once we finished eating, we wrapped up the tour with a ride around the camp. I fell asleep during this last part and slept until the hike. The hike was more of a walk, but it was very scenic—really immersive in nature. The most annoying part was the stairs, but going downhill on the way back made it easier.

After the hike, we returned to the hotel and showered. Then Matt, Aarron, and I went to an amazing Korean barbecue place. After dinner, we visited the Coex Mall, and I did some shopping to buy a few things for my family. Later, my group met briefly to discuss our project ideas, and then I went to bed.
