DMZ & Baseball

Today was one of my favorite days of the trip! We started by taking a bus ride to the area of the DMZ, the Demilitarized Zone, between North and South Korea. Before starting our tour, we had lunch at a restaurant where we had a soup that was greens, hotdogs (and various other meats), and cheese- an interesting combination, but it was actually good! After eating, we headed to the visitor center where we would be boarding our tour at 12:30. We got there around noon, so we had some free time so myself and some friends went to Dunkin to grab coffee and a donut. Then it was time, we boarded the bus that would take us into the DMZ. Once on, it headed to the Unification Bridge where we got our identities checked with our passports. After being checked, we proceeded over the bridge to the first stop which was the 3rd Tunnel discovered that North Korea dug to get into South Korea. We had an hour at this stop to walk down the tunnel and take pictures with the DMZ sign. The tunnel was an experience. You can’t take your phone or anything besides a water bottle and the cave is about 5-6 feet tall throughout, so I had to duck for much of it. You walk down a big cave, then you walk flat for a while, to finally reach the end where you can see through a window the area that goes to North Korea in the tunnel. After seeing the tunnel, we had to walk back up, which was exhausting. Then being tired, we all got a picture in front of the DMZ sign and headed back on the bus. Our final stops were an observatory into the North, but it was too foggy to see anything, then a 15-minute stop at a souvenir shop. We got back to our coach bus around 3:45 and then headed to a baseball game! We cheered for the Kiwoom Heroes, Seoul’s Baseball team. We played the Samsung Tigers. There was so much energy in the stadium- cheerleaders, flashing lights, noise makers, and a lot of cheering! Unfortunately, we lost the game, but it was such a fun experience. What a great day!
