For our free day, a few of us decided to make the most of it and take a day trip to Austria. At first, we thought we had a solid plan with the correct train tickets and a solid itinerary, but of course, it turned into a bit of an adventure.
We thought we had bought the right tickets, but we were wrong. Not only did we have to pay for another ticket, but we also got kicked off the train and ended up in what felt like the middle of nowhere. We waited for the next train for about 30 minutes, standing on a quiet platform surrounded by fog and fields. At the time, it was kind of stressful, but now it’s one of those moments we’ll probably laugh about later.
Eventually, we made it to Innsbruck, and the weather, while rainy and slightly cold, gave the city a unique atmosphere. We took a tram partway up a mountain, walked around, and grabbed some food. Even though we couldn’t see much of the Alps because of the fog, just being up there was worth it.
One of the best parts was just wandering around the different areas of the city. The architecture reminded me of Augsburg, but the buildings were more colorful. We stopped at a local cafe, had a unique but very good breakfast, and visited a few shops. On the way back, we finally got the train situation figured out and made it back to Augsburg with very few hiccups.
Overall, it was a great way to end the trip, exploring a new place with good people and creating one last memory before heading home. I’m not sure I’ll ever make it back to Innsbruck, but I’m really glad I got the chance to go.
