Day 8: Funicular in the Pouring Rain

Today was another later than usual morning where we didn’t have to leave the hotel until 9:25am! Following our departure from the hotel (after hotel breakfast of course), we went to a nice cafe to have Spanish churros (deep fried “bread” dipped in a thick hot chocolate). Personally, I thought it was a little early to be eating something so sweet, so I settled for a green tea. After this nice, second breakfast, we headed over to a flea market near old town. This market was so cool! There were so many nice little stands with such intricate little trinkets. I tried to limit my spending here a little bit since I’ve already bought so much on this trip, so I settled for just two rings.

After the flea market, we headed to the Bilbao funicular. It was crazy to me that a normal ticket costs 3.50 euro while using the metro card only costs 0.44 euro! At the top, we sat down for a mid-trip debrief to talk about what we’ve learned so far and how our perspectives have changed in a foreign country. Unfortunately, on our way down it started POURING. We couldn’t even see the city anymore! The rest of the group chose to wait out the rain, but I decided to take my chances and get back as quickly as I could. After getting back to the hotel, I passed out until dinner time.
