We visited Kyndryl and Dos Pinos today. Kyndryl is a multinational IT service company and Dos Pinos is a large dairy cooperative owned by local Costa Rican farmers. Kyndryl primarily serves stakeholders while Dos Pinos is a cooperative which serves local farmers and shares its profits.
I believe Dos Pinos creates the more lasting value for Costa Rica as it gives dairy farmers a way to earn money. Instead of famers opening their own shops it gives them an easy opportunity to deliver milk to Dos Pinos and then they handle the rest. I think the dairy farmers benefit the most from this business model. However, not only do the dairy farmers benefit but Costa Ricans do as well. When milk is sent to a huge factory like Dos Pinos, it is handled better than it would with a single farmer. Costa Ricans can know that their dairy products are handled with care and are free of bacteria.
My specific topic is ecotourism as a sustainable business model. Dos Pinos, as a large-scale agricultural cooperative, de-emphasizes small, locally managed ecotourism by promoting, industrial dairy farming. Its large-scale model conflicts with the principles of localized, nature-focused tourism.
