Starting off the day in a bit of a hurry let me stop and think on the bus that I really didn’t know too much about Glass Egg other than that they worked on super famous games that I knew. I have a very limited background in the gaming industry as growing up my bother wasn’t the best at sharing his xbox. However attending this site visit really opened my eyes to how intricate the gaming world is, and if I were more creative this would be a fun job.
One thing that stood out to me immediately was how their desks in their offices were structured. Many of the different teams were all clumped together throughout the floors. Being able to watch the designers make these pieces was so interesting. One person in particular was working on making a car and I was confused on where his references photos were as he was working on it, until I looked down and found a toy model of the same exact car that he was trying to replicate.
When listening during the presentation and Q&A I was so impressed when hearing how Glass Egg has maintained a strong relationship and partnership with a gaming company for 25 years. This proves to other customers how good Glass Egg really is that they never wanted to branch out and try new studios. I wonder that as AI does grow if there will ever be a point were fear truly tries to step in
Regarding the challenges they made a comment about AI but didn’t seem too threatened by it which I found interesting. Along with that he has made a comment that there are so many foundations that were present in designing when they just started out and many of these basic functions are still around today.
Glass egg is an amazing example of education breadth as professional development. Nothing that I witnessed in Glass egg would be something that I would be able to pick up in a classroom. This opens me up a bit more to understanding such a strong important for hands on learning and face to face learning.
As Week 1 ends my favorite thing so far has been being able to meet all of these UEF students as well as having them constantly with us and not just in the classroom! The rest of day fun was both overwhelming and relaxing with boxing than getting massages at the spa!
