Day 5: Vietnam

on

The company we visited today was Glass Egg. Me and my team actually researched Glass Egg for our presentation, so I was excited to see what it was actually like. Glass Egg is a Virtuos Studios artistic department that specializes on the visuals and art of video games. Some notable games they work on is Call of Duty, Forza Horizons, and Apex Legends. They specialize on the animation and visual aspects of the cars in these games, and have contributed to over 2600 cars in the forza industry throughout the years. Their office was very nice, and had a nice open layout design so everyone can see one another. I personally was very excited to see the studio and the work they did, for I play video games all the time. We were not allowed to take pictures inside of the studio, because Glass Egg was still working on upcoming game designs, but we were able to see an unreleased trailer for a game coming later this year.

The second half of the day was sports day. The sport we were doing was boxing, which I was very excited about. The gym itself was kind of in the middle of nowhere to be frank, it was through a walkway/alleyway and led to an open boxing gym. There was a ring in the middle and ample space around the ring to train and punch the sand bags. They had many sand bags, probably close to 20-25 all around the area, and they were all pretty good quality. We were led through some boxing exercises such as warming up with laps around the ring, push ups, and squats, and it was fun. We then went onto punching the sand bags for a minute at a time for 4 separate sets. That was very tiring honestly at first, but once you understood the physics of it and using your shoulders and hips to punch, it became a lot easier. Next, it looked like a lot of people were done, so they were allowing us to spar. I was very excited to watch, and wasn’t planning to do it honestly. However, I decided that I was already enjoying my time a lot and wanted to give it a try. Only 3 people sparred in the ring for 2 rounds each and I went last. The opponent for all of us was an experienced boxer who was definitely out of my range or tier. He was probably 20 pounds heavier, 5 or so inches taller, and had a lot more reach. Regardless of that, I still think I did a good job. I was constantly hitting him, and even if I wasn’t doing a lot of damage I was getting good contact. A majority of my blows were body shots, which then allowed me to target his face with hooks and jabs. I hit him a decent amount, and was happy with my performance. It was probably the best day that I have had here, for the site visit was very enjoyable, the boxing was awesome, and I got to sleep early that night. Overall, probably the best day here for me. I don’t have any pictures of the boxing, because sadly nobody was taking pictures of me.
