Day 1 in Ecuador!

After a fantastic sleep from a full day of travel, I woke up and got ready to experience the city that I had been thinking about for so long. We started our day with a brief tour of the San Franciscan Church, followed by a more in depth tour with our guide Dylan, where we learned about the creation of the monastery, the life and miracles performed by the monk who built it, and saw the first ever brewery built in the New World, where the monks regularly brewed beer for themselves because the water wasn’t safe to drink yet. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel for lunch, and had a few hours to explore, where we ended up buying some local soccer jerseys, having a bite to eat, and heading to the Basilica de Voto Nacional, and after quite the scary climb on old wire ladders, we made it to the top for a beautiful view of the city. Today was a calmer day, but tomorrow we have our first experience of chocolate tasting and we depart Quito for Cayambe, and I cannot wait to see what is in store next on my Ecuadorean adventure!
