Final Reflection

A few months ago, I had a meeting with my advisor, and she mentioned this opportunity to me. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but as time went on, I realized it could be an incredible experience. I felt like I hadn’t gotten involved as much as I should have during my time in college so far, so I saw this as a chance to put myself out there, step outside of my comfort zone, and try something completely new. This was also my first time traveling outside of the United States, which made me both excited and nervous. It’s hard to point to one specific moment that will stay with me forever because there were so many memorable experiences throughout the trip, but the moment I stepped outside of the airport in Germany is one that immediately comes to mind. It felt surreal knowing that I was actually there. Seeing signs in a different language, noticing the different looking taxis, and taking in an entirely new environment brought on so many emotions at once. In that moment, it finally hit me that I was experiencing something I had never imagined I would have the opportunity to do. The most valuable thing I am taking away from this trip is the memories and experiences that came with it. I now have countless stories that I will be able to share for years to come. From the jaw dropping company visits and stunning architecture to the cultural differences and unforgettable nights spent with the group, every day brought something new. From a business and manufacturing perspective, the biggest lesson I learned was just how much work goes on behind the scenes. There are so many layers involved in planning, production, marketing, sales, employment, and operations that most people never think about. Being able to walk through factories, watch production lines in action, and see firsthand how many people and machines are involved in creating products was incredible. It made me realize how advanced technology has become and how much coordination it takes to keep everything running efficiently. Overall, I can confidently say that this trip changed me for the better. I have gained a greater appreciation for different cultures and a stronger desire to continue exploring the world. I made lifelong memories that I will carry with me forever, but one of the most meaningful parts of this experience was the people. I didn’t know a single person before this trip began, and now I feel like I have formed genuine friendships with many of them. While it is difficult to say goodbye, I am grateful for the connections, experiences, and lessons this journey gave me, and I know they will stay with me long after the trip has ended.
