Nachste Halt: Ulm

Now that presentations were over, I realized how little time we had left in the trip. It was very sad to think about. Thursday started off with a train ride to Ulm where we would climb up the 768-step cathedral that Ulm features. The climb up was rough, but the view at the top was unforgettable. I actually thought that the climb down was worse than the climb up. I think Dan came close to dying while climbing the cathedral.

Next, we had a tour guide show us around the city. First, we went into the cathedral that we just hiked up; it was quite beautiful inside and had incredible stained-glass windows.  One of them actually featured Albert Einstein who was born in Ulm. After the cathedral, we walked around to different historical sites in Ulm. We saw the most leaning hotel in the world which was cool. For lunch, we went to a famous pancake place. I got a pancake with beef loaf in it which was good but too filling for me to finish. Our table also ordered some dessert pancakes that were amazing. Ulm is a beautiful city and I’m happy we had the opportunity to see it.

When we got back to Augsburg, we had the farewell dinner with all of the Germans. It was tough to say goodbye to everyone. The SGL group had become so close over the two weeks so it was very hard to leave them. After dinner, we prepared for our free day the next day which we were to spend in Munich!
