The Netherlands Adventure

Hello everyone! My name is Drew Lindstrom and I am rounding off my first year in the Swanson School of Engineering. I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering and am considering minoring in Environmental Engineering. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time outdoors and reading. My favorite book I’ve read recently is Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger. I also enjoy travelling and am super excited for this trip!

This upcoming May, I will be travelling with Pitt’s Plus-3 Program to The Netherlands, where I’ll be immersed in the country for two weeks. I will be exposed to the Dutch culture and learn about concept-to-customer business, as well as see the engineering within large companies and the infrastructure of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. I chose the Plus-3 program because it is a great opportunity to see engineering through a global lens and, conveniently, I love to travel. With the program pertaining to both engineering and business, I will also be able to gain perspective on how the two fields are intertwined. Additionally, The Netherlands trip focuses on concept-to-customer which directly relates to innovating, a subject that engineers cannot learn enough from. Overall, the trip is perfect for me!

While in The Netherlands, I hope to learn more about what I want to do with my engineering degree. We are scheduled to visit multiple companies of varying fields and I will be able to see first-hand what types of work I may enjoy after I graduate. This program will also offer me the opportunity to explore the business side of companies, which is a skill that I could apply to my future endeavors. With less than a month until the trip, I am ecstatic to venture to The Netherlands.
