Today was a tour of both the University of Augsburg and more of the city. The University of Augsburg was way different from any other campuses that I have visited before. There is so much greenery around the campus. There were trees everywhere and the grass was growing everywhere, so it felt like I was walking through a nature park. This is vastly different from the US and I think it is because Germans care more about the environment. Germany tries to pursue cleaner energy and so because of that they most likely prefer to have the grass grow a little bit taller. In the US, we are more conscious of having a cleaner image, so most Americans don’t let the grass even grow past an inch. This is a huge difference between Germany and America and this difference is a difference that I really like.
After that, The University of Augsburg students put together a scavenger hunt where we had to find various key buildings in the city. This was my favorite part throughout the day because of the church buildings that we visited. These buildings were extremely beautiful from their art work and their architecture. The main reason for why these churches have such a distinct style to them is because they are so old. The history of the Catholic Church and their power over Europe was such a long time in history, so many of the buildings reflect the time period. The best way that I can put it is that if I were in America and in a church, that church would most likely reflect a more modern design because many of the buildings are new. However, Germany is different because of how old the country is. Even German history dates back before Germany was even a country. I will continue to be shocked with how beautiful everything is.
