Day 5: Becoming Czech Students

Today was a very classroom-heavy day where we immersed ourselves in the Czech language and culture. We started the day with a crash course on how to pronounce Czech words, which I found very helpful! We also learned some helpful phrases like Hello, Goodbye, Thank you, and more. So, all of us can feel a little more comfortable in navigating the city.

After we finished our school day, a group of us went to the Beer Experience, which was a lovely museum trip where we learned all about the story of the Czech Beer “Pilsner Urquell” and how important it is to the people here.

Regarding the university experience here, there are a few major differences compared to how we do things in the United States. The universities here are much more spread out across the city; for example, the technical building might be many blocks away from the arts and history building. Also, public university educations here are free for students. There is no cost of tuition which is absolutely fantastic because it does not lock a good education behind a significant pay-wall as in the US.
