Getting coal for Christmas

Today we took a day trip to a power plant and a coal mine near the border of Germany. On the bus ride there and back I am pretty sure almost everyone was taking a nap. The power plant and coal mine were very cool. At the power plant they told us how the energy is made and how they plan on using less coal in the near future. We then were able to go to the top of the boiler and got a great view of the surrounding area including the pit mine. We then got on an off-road vehicle and got to get an up-close look at the mine. It was massive. It spanned over a mile long and the machinery there were humongous. It was very cool to see how coal is mined in places like that. I also found a cool piece of coal which had some fools gold and blue things on it.

The biggest misconception I’ve had about the Czech Republic is that I expected it to be very flat. That is definitely not the case. What we saw today at our company visit was very similar to being in central PA with a range of mountains. I thought most of Europe was flat besides the Alps because you never heard of any other mountain ranges in central Europe, but it turns out it is much mountainous than I expected.
