These hats go hard

A peaceful rest after yesterday’s visits was much needed before we started our day today. First, we headed over to Vassiliko which is a Cement company located here in Cyprus. They presented to us their process of how they make the cement and how they source their materials. This is a large industry as billions of cement are consumed worldwide each year.

We then got a tour of the plant where we had to put on hard hats and safety vests to stay protected and stick to protocols. We got to see different storage, mixing, and transporting machines for the different necessary materials.

We then got to head over to a local ocean-side seafood restaurant where we had fish meze for lunch. They just kept going bringing out platters. As a vegetarian, I got special treatment again but it was definitely something to see everyone try the fish with the heads still on them. The cats also came over to beg for food but this time I could sneak some off of the other plates to feed them.

We then got ready to head to our next company visit, MSC. MSC is the largest shipping company in the world so it was very interesting to meet them and learn about their company, especially after Columbia Shipping Management company yesterday. They were very eager to meet with us as they know the future of shipping relies on our generation, and without the necessary information to get people interested in it, it may not get as many employees as it needs to properly function. Similar to MSC, they showed us their system to track their ships as well as see where all of the ships in the world are traveling which was very interesting. MSC is the world’s largest shipping company and has the MSC Irina which is the largest ship in the world. Everyone at this company was very passionate about their work and it was clearly reflected to us. They got us cake and pizza and we got to meet with them and ask further questions. Another very informative day as we rounded out our day.
