On our second day in the ancient city of Athens, we went on a detailed tour of central city, exploring the various neighborhoods and aspects that make the city what it is today. From the archaeological sites at every block, to the cats roaming the Plaka cobblestone streets, every bit was filled with new sights and facts that I hadn’t seen or known before. After this tour, we attended our highly anticipated company visit with Lambda Development at Ellinikon. The most interesting thing that I learned about was BIM. This stands for building info modeling. The progressive and new system creates a 3D representation of constructible projects by providing single sources of info, reducing error, promoting collaboration, allowing for the adoption of new technology, and reducing design/construction time. One of the most interesting aspects of the forum is that one change to an aspect of the model will update the entire picture, allowing the model to be easily adaptable. This application could become prominent in mapping out different areas of the body or how devices could integrate within the body, creating an avenue for bioengineering. I am excited to see how I can integrate what I have learned about BIM into my work as a bioengineer in the future.
