Day 2: Races and Dances

We had another very eventful day today. Thankfully, nobody got lost.

Searching for Dr. Yun

We had to meet in the lobby at 10:30am today. I noticed that Dr. Yun was not there, which confused me. When all the students finally got there (after several people went back to their rooms to get sunglasses), we received a text from Dr. Yun saying we needed to work in our teams to find him, and that the first two teams would get free lunch. He sent a total of 4 pictures as hints to where he was. After Jake quickly did an image search, we knew we had to go to Jogyesa Temple. We thought that we were taking the faster route by immediately getting on the metro then transferring, rather than walk a lot farther to a station where we wouldn’t have to transfer, which was what the other teams seemed to be doing. We were wrong, and we got to the temple last. We did not find Dr. Yun, because he had already moved on. However, he told us to spend 20 minutes at the temple, then he would give us more photo hints as to his current location. So, we stayed, looked around, and took some pictures.

After the 20 minutes, we received our first hint, which wasn’t super helpful. However, we spotted Group A, so we secretly decided to follow them. Then, we got our next hints which were more helpful. At that point, we teamed up with Group A and rode the bus to the National Museum of Korea. Of course, the other two groups beat us.

Lunch

We got lunch at the museum, and I got some tofu with udon noodles. It was really good, and the tofu had a different texture than I was used to, it was almost more fluffy. Unfortunately, it was a huge bowl, and I wasn’t able to finish it all. Also, the picture for some reason looks like it has some sort of filter on it. I don’t know what exactly happened there. After lunch, Sophie and I explored the museum a little bit. We spent some time at the gift shop, where I bought a gift for someone (won’t say what or who it’s for because that person is probably reading this…I hope). Then, we explored some of the exhibits, but unfortunately neither of us are huge fans of museums, so we just went to the cafe and got some milk tea. I’m still trying to figure out what the name of it was, because I can’t remember. Maybe I’ll update this post once I find the name of it, or I’ll just include it with tomorrow’s post. The milk tea was good, it tasted exactly like milk in Cinnamon Toast Crunch. After that, we met back at the steps of the museum, took some more pictures, and then headed to our K-Pop dance class.

Dance Class

The K-pop dance class was fun, but it definitely solidified the fact that I cannot dance. I was kind of getting some of the choreography, but by the end I was forgetting some of it. Thankfully, we were not getting graded on our performance. We did all get participation certificates though, which was fun. The not fun part about that was that Chris and Dr. Yun both got certificates, even though they didn’t dance at all. We tried getting them to, but Chris just refused. Dr. Yun told at least 2 people (that I heard) that if they want to pass the class they can’t ask him about dancing.

Shopping

After the dance class, Madeleine, Kali and I went to Daiso, a 12 story department store. We went to each floor, and at one point ran into Ben, who joined our group. I think we all ended up buying more than we planned to (we tried to share 1 small bag so we could limit our spending, but we each ended up with our own bags by the end). However, I only spent about $7.14! I bought some gifts for people (again won’t say what or for who because they should be reading this), some cookies, and a frying pan. Yes, a frying pan. I need one for my apartment next year and it was like $3.40. You cannot laugh or judge me for this decision because where in the U.S. am I going to find a frying pan for less than like $20? After that, Kali, Madeleine and I headed back to the hotel. We had run into some other people in our group, so Ben went with them to get some dinner.

Tomorrow we get to dress fancy (in business casual clothes, but I think fancy is more fun). We do need to wake up early, so I think I’ll end today’s post here and get some sleep.
