Final Site Visit: Exploring Food Cloud

On our last day, we got the chance to go visit and learn about Food Cloud, a company focused on preventing food waste through innovative strategies. We got the chance to listen to a presentation where he went over their business model, and what their core values are. We then got the chance to see their warehouse, where we could see first hand the amount of inventory they have. It was a really cool way to wrap up the trip, and this company was definitely much different from the rest of the companies we toured.

I think that Food Cloud’s business model is incredibly successful for a few important reasons. First off, they prioritize good morals, and that really sets them apart. I noticed in the presentation that the presenter truly believed in bettering the world through his work. They genuinely care about reducing food waste and helping those in need. It’s not just about making money for them; it’s about making a positive impact on the world. People can sense their sincerity, and that creates a strong connection with customers and partners. Another key factor is that they manage to strike a balance between being professional and down-to-earth.

I think the most innovative aspect of Food Cloud’s business model is their ability to be so efficient and meticulous about the best by dates on the food. The presenter told us that often times the dates posted on packaged food are not accurate, and food is actually fresh much longer than those dates. They use their own research and understanding to maximize the length a food is good to eat. Overall, I really enjoyed this visit and it was cool to see a company less focused on profits, and more on making an impact on people in need.
