Hello, my name is Caleb Bower, and I’m from Manheim, Pennsylvania. I enjoy staying active, both mentally and physically. I love running around town and through Schenley Park. When I am not working up a sweat, I also enjoy playing the card game Magic: The Gathering with my friends in the evenings. I’m currently majoring in gas, renewables, and oil engineering, which is a new major at the University of Pittsburgh. I’m particularly interested in sustainable engineering and how we can better utilize renewable energy and work to optimize traditional energy methods.
I chose the Greece Plus3 program because it offers both a chance to experience ancient history and global logistics. I’ve never been to Greece before, and I’m interested in seeing how global supply chains function in an international context. I hope by understanding these supply chains, I will gain a more global mindset and think more about how different systems and companies work together. Beyond the supply chains, I’m excited to visit some of the most ancient feats of engineering and see how far our advancement has grown over the centuries.
This experience connects directly to my goals as an aspiring engineer. Understanding how professionals communicate across cultures and industries will help me develop the skills needed to collaborate with others on a global level and across industries. In engineering, we often face global issues, and this experience will help me understand how engineering crosses global borders. In addition, this will show me how supply chains and sustainability tie into the industry and how I can apply them as a future engineer.
