Postcard from the Aegean

Hi! I’m Remy Ramirez, and I’m from San Antonio, Texas! In the fall, I plan on studying chemical engineering and minoring in bioengineering and chemistry, while also working toward completing a distinction in the Frederick Honors College.

Aside from academics, I am involved in the sorority Sigma Delta Tau here on campus and the Catholic Newman Club. I was a gymnast for most of my life, and I did all-star cheer. I coach gymnastics back home, and still enjoy tumbling and maintaining abilities from gymnastics and cheer in my free time. I enjoy hiking, traveling, exploring new places, volunteering, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.

This May, I have been allowed to study abroad in Greece. The program was originally supposed to take place in Cyprus, but I am excited and looking forward to this opportunity nevertheless. I chose this program because I am intrigued by the relationship between supply chain management and engineering, and broadening my perspective can help me become a professional engineer by fostering an understanding of different cultures and viewpoints.

This experience aligns with my values and career interests because growing up in a traveling family has made exploring new places feel more natural to me. Because I am used to adapting to different environments, this experience seems more exciting to me than intimidating. Additionally, following my plans of pursuing an engineering degree, I am considering potentially working abroad at some point. I can apply my global experience to future engineering conventions, and I cannot wait to depart!
