Athens Bound: Plus3 Intro

on

Hello! My name is Jett Lincoln, and I am from Ridgewood, New Jersey. I am a first-year Industrial Engineering student at Pitt enrolled in the Frederick Honors College, and I am honored to be a contributor to this blog page! Outside of academics, I enjoy various physical activities, particularly rock climbing and running. Furthermore, I enjoy reading and listening to music, with Stephen King as my current favorite author and classic rock as my favorite music genre. In my time at Pitt, I have picked up rock climbing and playing guitar as new hobbies, and I plan on taking advantage of as many opportunities as possible, including this Plus3 program!

My Plus3 program location is Athens, Greece, and it is focused on supply chain management, shipping, and logistics in the global market. Initially, this program was designed to be located in Cyprus; however, the University of Nicosia has allowed us to reorganize and restructure our trip to be in Athens, which I am eternally grateful for. The reason why I chose to apply for and participate in Plus3 Greece was to gain an understanding of Industrial Engineering in the real world. During my first year at Pitt, I had a difficult time choosing between Civil and Industrial Engineering, and I believe the lessons learned and experience gained on the upcoming trip will finally allow me to decide between Industrial and Civil Engineering once and for all. Additionally, this trip will effectively introduce me to the vast concept of supply chain, allowing me to decide whether I will delve more into supply chain at Pitt for my career.

One of my main goals during my time at Pitt is to explore different fields of engineering and find a discipline I excel at and enjoy. Plus3 Greece connects to this goal because it allows me to explore the Industrial Engineering concept of supply chain. Whether I see myself working in supply chain for the rest of my life or end up not wanting to think about supply chains ever again after the trip, I will gain valuable experience from Plus3 Greece that courses and clubs on campus simply cannot offer. Moreover, I am excited to leverage Plus3 Greece to form professional connections in Greece during our company visits, effectively practicing and developing my networking skills. I am tremendously excited for the trip, and I am so grateful for the opportunity.
