Hello everyone! My name is Varnujah, and I am a first-year bioengineering student at the University of Pittsburgh, originally from Pittsburgh. I’m really excited to be part of the Plus3 South Korea program and am looking forward to the academic, personal, and professional growth this experience will bring.
At Pitt, I’m actively involved in clubs such as the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and Pitt Pulse. I am also an undergraduate researcher in the Translational Medical Device Research Laboratory, where I gain hands-on experience in biomedical device development. Through the Changemaker Series Spring 2026 cohort, I’ve strengthened my entrepreneurial mindset and my interest in developing innovative, impact-driven solutions in healthcare and engineering. Outside of school, I enjoy listening to music and dancing.
This summer, I’ll be traveling to South Korea. I’ve long admired the country’s vibrant culture, from its fashion and traditions to its cuisine and music. What fascinates me most, however, is its technological advancement. I’m especially eager to learn about South Korea’s smart systems and see how they transform industries and everyday life. Visiting companies and seeing cutting-edge technology in action is an incredible opportunity.
I also look forward to exploring traditional cultural sites, since I think understanding a country’s history helps make sense of its modern achievements. Through company visits and cultural immersion, I hope to better understand how South Korea blends innovation with tradition and apply those insights to my future work in bioengineering.
This program truly combines my academic interests and cultural curiosity. I’m eager to develop a global perspective on how technology shapes societies and how different countries approach engineering challenges. I believe this experience will have a lasting impact on my academic and professional path and inspire new ideas for my future contributions as an engineer.
