We went to another country today! I was so excited to get to go to two countries on this trip and was really looking forward to seeing how Colonia was different than the areas I’ve seen in Argentina so far. 

  We all woke up early in the morning to take a large boat over to Uruguay. I was surprised at how nice the boat ride and it only took one hour to arrive. My first impressions as we walked around Colonia was how it looked like a mix of Old San Juan PR, Greece and Italy combined. The white buildings and cobblestone streets were beautiful and the flowers blooming all complimented each other so well. Despite being cold, it was fun to walk around and learn about how they reconstructed and repurposed most buildings in the area. I also learned that the winds are coming from Antártica which is why it feels much colder there.

There were many stores selling wool and cashmere products and other nice souvenirs. We saw the local stadium and had lunch at a nice restaurant. It was such a fun day with such pretty scenery. The long travel day was definitely worth the experience we all had. 

As the last part of my blog today, I want to give Jason a spotlight. He has been so helpful on this trip with his knowledge of Buenos Aires and his ability to speak Spanish. Everyday he is so engaged with everything we are learning and he is great at making conversation with all of us. He is always genuinely interested in what we have to say and his responses to questions are very well-rounded. Thank you Jason!
