Today we walked to an Austral University building to learn about Private Payers and NGOs. The director of OMINT briefly described the Argentine health system before going into detail about the PHC. There are 3 different PHC plans and multiple different types of companies. The regulatory frameworks of PHC includes the coverage of medical services, Base Law, complementary laws, and the disability law. The administrative framework includes the compliance of prevention and regulatory framework and health outcomes/claims from members. PHC faces many challenges especially with medical and country inflation.
The presentations today were newer information today about certain topics we have not covered so far in depth. However, we did later touch on information regarding Prepagas and Obras Sociales. Since my presentation is on private payers, the information we received today was very useful. The main difference between the two is Obras is tied to worker’s unions while prepares are seperate private insurance companies that you must pay a premium for rather than a portion of your salary. However, under a new law by Milei the relationship between Obras and Prepagas has changed. Union workers used to be required to reicieve insurance through their employer/ union, but now workers have the choice of receiving insurance through their union or going directly to a prepaga themselves. This law helps to dismantle the monopoly unions have created and give more freedom to workers.
