Welcome to the Costa Rica Plus3 Study Abroad Program!
Professor Ryan Teeter and Laura Caroll, Academic Advisor, are traveling to the Costa Rican Central Valley, Monteverde, and Tarrazu with 20 College of Business Administration and Swanson School of Engineering students from May 6 – May 20. In addition to numerous cultural experiences, the trip will include visits to Cafe Britt, Cafe Rey, Life Monteverde, and Coopedota.
In 2017 students will explore globalization in Costa Rica through the Coffee industry
The second-most sought-after commodity in the world, coffee moves through a complex global web on its way to consumption. Your trip to Costa Rica will give you a firsthand look at both large-scale and small-scale coffee growing, processing, and exportation. Background on Costa Rica’s history and politics will give you a base to use in company visits exploring engineering practices and environmental impacts as well as international marketing. Q&A sessions with company executives and representatives will allow you to dig deeper into business and engineering practices and to better understand the interdependencies in the global market.
- Company visits included Cafe Britt, Cafe Rey, Life Monteverde, and Coopedota
- Cultural activities included a trip to Monteverde (cloud forests and coffee plantations), La Paz Waterfalls, and activities with local Costa Rican students
- Locations will include Heredia, Monteverde, and Tarrazu
