Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Steven Field, and long story short, I’m going to Vietnam!
I’m from Ambler, Pennsylvania, but if you ask me in person I’d just tell you I’m from Philly. I came to Pitt this past August with business and marketing in mind. However, similar to lots of freshman, I really don’t know what I want to do with my life. So I’ve been taking a combination of business classes, a practical major, and history classes, something I enjoy studying a bit more but don’t know where it’d lead me. This battle between mainly unrelated majors has been waging all through college, and trust me, it’s still going strong.
Plus3 attracted me for a number of reasons. I first heard about it before I even committed to Pitt. I received a letter from the university and, like other times when I received a letter from a university I applied to, my mom read over my shoulder. It just talked about the opportunity of Plus3 and how cool it was, and already my mom was raving about it. She talked about Costa Rica and China and Germany, but the destination I kept eyeing was Vietnam. I’ve always loved East Asian history (and I now plan on concentrating in that in my history major), and I also have always had an interest in businesses abroad and developing countries. Plus3 Vietnam seemed to take all of my interests and roll them up into a little 2-week ball. Additionally, I love how it’s only an introduction to study abroad, because I definitely plan on going somewhere else during college. From the moment I read that letter, I knew I was going to Vietnam.
Wow how time can fly! Vietnam is a month away and I am extremely excited. To fly across the world, experience a new culture, eat new foods, meet new people, and see things so many people will never get to see: what else can a person ask for?
Stay tuned! The fun hasn’t even started yet.
