Day 1: The journey begins

Today was a very long day. The journey started out in the infamous Tower C, where we met our new travel buddies and got ourselves situated for the journey ahead. We all went to dinner together at the Union Grille, where I introduced myself to my colleagues by ordering them two orders of indoor s’mores. Then we went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, which I was thoroughly impressed with. It was a great bonding experience. At 2:50am I got a call waking me up saying it was time to go. I quickly gathered by belongings and headed down to the lobby. We all got on a bus that drove us to the Pittsburgh Airport. Before I knew it, we were waiting 9 hours in Newark for our flight to Munch. We got very familiar with that airport.
By the time we finally touched down in Munich, everyone was overtired and delusional. I was immediately impressed with the cars I noticed on the streets. Once we made it to the hotel, we put our belongings down and took a quick rest, then headed out for the afternoon. Dr. Feick took us on a tour of Augsburg for the first time, where we learned some of the basic geography of the town and bus routes. One of my favorite places we visited was the Augsburg Cathedral. I’ve never seen a more breathtaking piece of architecture in my life.
We went out to dinner at a fantastic Bavarian restaurant called Zeug Haus, where we got to meet and converse with some of the University of Augsburg students. Being able to talk to the German students really made me look forward to the upcoming days and nights we would be spending with them.
Finally, after dinner we headed back to the hotel. I had big plans to get ready for the next day, but I was sojet lagged that I ended up falling asleep at 9pm, which is probably a new record for me.
The first day in Augsburg was exhausting, but nothing was better than the excitement and anticipation for the next two weeks I’ll be spending here.
