Today we went to SGL, and I learned that carbon is pretty dope. SGL uses synthetic graphite, natural graphite, and carbon fibers to make anodes, cathodes, batteries, the bodies of cars, and other auto parts. I really enjoyed learning more about graphite and carbon fibers. I am a chemical engineering major so this company was most applicable to my engineering interests.
After SGL, we went back to the University of Augsburg and listened to a talk from a BMW representative. He talked mostly about Autonomous cars. Since we go to school in Pittsburgh, we see self-driving cars on campus a lot which the speaker thought was cool. It was interesting to hear about BMW’s plans for future self-driving cars. The speaker said that BMW should be coming out with self-driving cars in 2021.
