Day 13: Free in Munich

Today was our free day, and last day in Germany.  A group of 10 of us decided to go to Munich for the day, to see the famous english gardens.  We left the hotel early and went into downtown Augsburg for breakfast, where we ate a restaurant called Picnic.  We then made our way to the train station, where we caught a train to Munich.  Thankfully, one of the german students decided to come with us, because without him we would soon have been lost.

After getting off the train, we took the subway to a river with beaches made of pebbles, and sat by it skipping stones and dipping our feet in the water.  It was a really relaxing place, and I could imagine people coming there to get away from the rush of the main city.  One interesting aspect of that river, however, was the nudists.  On the other side of the river (thankfully) there was a few nudists enjoying the warm day.  I found this to be quite different from typical American cities.

After spending some time by the river, we continued our walk to the English gardens.  They were beautiful, we enjoyed a relaxing walk along the paths.  I was surprised to find how many people were there, even though it is a work day.  It was nice to see that people take the time out of their day to enjoy the nature in a big city like Munich.  I was also happy to find how many dogs were there.  One interesting thing that we found is that there is surfing in the English gardens!

We ate lunch at a beer garden in the middle of the park, and it was nice to enjoy that aspect of the Bavarian culture for the last time.  After that, we went to a few other tourist locations suggested by our guide, but when it started to rain heavily, we headed home to pack for the flight the next day.  As a whole, it was a great day, and I enjoyed having the time to really explore Munich!
