Reflection

I am blessed beyond belief to have been a part of Plus3 Germany 2017. The day we flew home, I was talking with friends and realized how great the trip was. In only fourteen days, I made some great friends, ate some great food, learned about some great companies, and appreciated a great country. I have truly learned a lot about Germany and about myself by being a part of this study abroad experience.

In my eyes, the best part of this trip was the people that I met and the friendships that were built. By spending so much time with the same people, it really allowed us all to get to know each other. This trip allowed me to become close with some of the German students, however, it also allowed me to become close friends with some students from Pitt. Some of which I would have never met had I not gone on this trip.

The day we left Germany, I realized how truly special this study abroad opportunity was. We will never again experience anything quite like these past two weeks. At first, this was sad to think about, but after a while it didn’t seem so sad anymore. We will miss Germany because it is now the place of a million unforgettable memories and the beginnings of many friendships. It is sad that we had to leave, but were only sad because the trip was so great. My feelings when we left Germany reminded me of a quote that a friend shared with me: Miriam Adeney writes, “You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
