Hi! My name is Steve Schultz and I am a rising-sophomore computer engineering major at the Swanson School of Engineering. I am the Freshman Co-chair of Pitt’s Engineering Student Council and I am also involved in the Resident Student Association. I am from the city of Reading, PA.
When I found out that I got accepted into Plus3 China, I got excited. More specifically, I got excited about being able to get an in-depth look at an industry that I may want to go into after college. As a computer engineer, going into consumer electronics is a major option for me to do out of college, so figuring out whether I would want to work in consumer electronics or not is important for me professionally. The trip also makes me eager to experience another culture. I have never really been exposed to a different nation’s culture first hand before, so being able to experience it will be a great experience for me. Academically, I hope to be able to see what it is like to be a college student in China, and what I can improve upon with myself as a student.
There are several factors that make me excited to go to China. Firstly, I am excited to see many of the beautifully preserved historical landmarks within China, like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Terracotta Warriors. I am also excited to be able to experience what it is like to be in a mega-city like Beijing and Shanghai. The environment in some of the largest cities in the world is definitely different than that of Pittsburgh, and I am interested to see what the differences are.
