Today we got to explore Heredia. Heredia is the city we are staying just outside of, and it was a very interesting day. We got to see the cities park in the center, there was music, fountains and many people enjoying the nice weather. Then we walked through the market which was filled with many people. There were all kinds of food; meat, vegetables, fruit, spices and it was all out on display for people to buy (nothing prepackaged). Then we saw the cities soccer stadium and then we went to lunch.
My roommate and I had the special privilege to go with our host mom up into the mountains to her favorite spot. The location was a place where people can go to get married, host events, and stay in a chalet type place. It looked like something out of a fairy tale and was incredibly beautiful.
Heredia is far more relaxed than I expected. The people do not seem to be in any hurry and that combined with how the shops and stores where set up reminded me much of a beach town. So far, it is different from what I expected but in a good way. The relaxed feeling makes it very welcoming and I am looking forward to what is to come!
