First of all wow. The Amazon visit is something I will truly remember forever. As a BIS major and someone very interested in tech, it completely opened my eyes to the possibilities of both careers and for human kind in general.
For the first talk with Alexa, the first thing that stood out to me was how wide spread Alexa is in products and how much she will be in the future. As they mentioned as part time strategy, they want her to be so ingrained in the fabric of society that they can charge for it at that point since people won’t be able to live without it at that point. Beyond this, once Alexa is more widespread there will be endless possibilities for how it is used.
Next, the presenter for AWS demonstrated truly how large Amazon is. The imagery of all the clients that use AWS was pretty astonishing. It reveals how much potential Amazon truly has since in a similar fashion to machine learning, the bigger they are the more they can do.
As a final thought, this visit added a lot of clarity to my career path. As someone who was already on the border of wanting to do a tech job, I think it is fair to say this completely swayed me in that direction. It also completely swayed me toward Amazon as a company. It proved to me that that is where my passion lies and I need to be involved in the constantly changing tech world.
