Today was our final day as a group in Italy. It was sad in the sense that the trip has been an amazing experience and I’ve made great friends amongst the group. However, it was also happy and cheerful as we discussed our favorite parts of the trip. We also had a wonderful site visit to the Milan Fashion Library and a fantastic farewell group lunch.
The Milan Fashion Library is located near the Navigli (the canal in Milan). I hadn’t yet been to this neighborhood of Milan. Although the area wasn’t as shiny and new as some of the more upscale parts of central Milan, it still had the energy and flow of stylish Milanese residents typical of those high-end neighborhoods. The Fashion Library itself was also an enjoyable visit. It is a continuation of a private collection of fashion and design books, lookbooks, magazines, and newspapers owned by a former Conde Nast executive. The purpose of founding the library was to offer stylists, students, designers, and lawyers access to information on past collections and trends as well as to inspire new designs through fashion history.
After visiting the Fashion Library, we had our final group lunch at a nearby restaurant called Osteria Delbinari. The food here was very good and the atmosphere was even better. We sat outside under a woven canopy of vines and branches next to a greenhouse that the restaurant had converted into a dining room. This was very surprising as the restaurant’s facade and it’s entrance were quite small and not modern in design at all. This encapsulates the character of the Navigli neighborhood well. Just as the restaurant had a rough exterior that led to a beautiful interior, the streets may be filled with graffiti and older buildings but also are home to many nice restaurants and stylish Milanese people.
I returned to the hotel after lunch to rest a bit before leaving later in the afternoon for a bit of shopping in downtown Milan and dinner. After dinner, I ended the trip on the rooftop of La Rinascente overlooking the Duomo, much as one of my first dinners in Itlay, for some desert and reflection on such a wonderful trip with such wonderful people.
Although today may be the last full day in Europe for much of the group, I will be continuing my travels in Europe for 6 more days by visiting Paris, France. After having such a good time exploring Italy I am really looking forward to this next part of my trip.
Thanks for sticking along for the whole journey with me! Ciao!
